Dr. Melissa Cheng is an Associate Professor at the University of Utah (UofU). SheDr. Melissa Cheng is an Associate Professor at the University of Utah (UofU). Shegraduated from the UofU School of Medicine in 2008. In 2003, she earned a Master ofHealth Science in International Health with an emphasis on complex humanitarianemergencies from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Master ofOccupational Health from the UofU in 2010. Dr. Cheng is the founder and director of theUofU Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) training program, auniversal screening program for substance use disorder. Her research interests includeevaluating the effectiveness of opioid use within the workers compensation system, andshe has presented locally and nationally on "opioids in the workplace."Dr. Cheng is board-certified in addiction medicine and practices at the University of UtahHospital Addiction Consult Service. She is also the Clinical Medical Director for ComagineHealth where she works on various projects improving the quality and access to care foropioid use disorder.
