On Wednesday, February 22nd the Utah Geriatric Education Consortium (UGEC) is hosting a Caregiver Conference at the Dixie Convention Center in St. George, UT.  This event is for caregivers to learn more about resources and services in the community. Members from the following organizations will be presenting: Five County Area Agency on Aging, the Utah Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Utah Department of Health & Human Services Aging & Adult Services, and the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System.  I have attached flyers about this event, and listed all the sessions below.  This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited.  Those interested in attending need to register.

UGEC Fireside Chat - The Village Movement: Age-Friendly Environments
Manuel Acevedo is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Southern California Leonard Davis School of Gerontology where he teaches the Adaptive Age-Friendly Environments and Injury Prevention course. Acevedo is dedicated to providing the Village Movement with the best tools to grow and impact their local communities in the most remarkable way. He is the founder and CEO of HelpfulVillage.com, a tech company that helps older adults as they age in their own homes with a little help from their neighbors. In 2020, Aging 2.0 recognized HelpfulVillage.com as worldwide top 10 innovator against social isolation.

UGEC Age-Friendly ECHO - Cross-Cultural Communication in the Healthcare Workplace

Jeremy Holloway PhD is Assistant Professor and Director of Geriatric Education at the University of North Dakota. The focus of his research is concentrated on the social determinants of health, specifically self-efficacy, connectedness, and resiliency of older adults. Dr. Holloway developed a curriculum focused on intergenerational programs that include growth mindset, reminiscence therapy, mindfulness, guided imagery, and S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting practices to nourish internal qualities and self-agency of older adults. These best practices for wellness & health promotion address needs related to loneliness and social isolation. Dr. Holloway is also an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially regarding Social Determinants of Health for all peoples.
